True friends (Jesus called us friends) forgive and forget. We forgive simply by asking God to forgive those that have hurt us. Jesus said: "forgive them father for they know not what they do". We forget not by amnesia (loss of memory) but by putting it out of mind (not thinking about it). When we refuse to forgive someone that has hurt us, we remain bound to the problem and circumstances that caused the unforgiveness. That means that the pain also remains and the wounds never really heal. The apparent healing its only hurt being suppressed by the antagonism you feel toward the person who hurt you. Once you truly forgive someone you will be at peace with that person and that means you will have peace. The secret to receiving God's forgiveness and blessings for our life, is putting into practice the God given gift to forgive those who have wronged us. For the Bible says "forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." Our forgiveness hinges on our willingness to forgive others, even our enemies. Ask Jesus to teach you how to forgive. He's really good at it.
Here is an *allegory: Man made the computer in his own image. In a computer when files are not in use they are stored in the hard drive (not in memory). When the user wants to use a file, he brings it to memory or opens it. The user never wants to open files that are corrupted or have viruses because he knows the damage that will do to the computer. Neither do we want to bring to memory or juggle in our minds the painful things that others have done to us, for it only poisons the heart adding more pain and misery. Be a true friend, forgive!
First we forgive then we forget. The reward is love, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, which surpasses understanding.
